A.S.M.E. Certificates of Authorization 

  • ASME (Formerly “U”) – Certificate of Authorization to design, fabricate and alter A.S.M.E Code stamped pressure vessels.
  • S – Certificate of Authorization to assemble power boilers and also to fabricate and alter A.S.M.E. Code stamped power piping systems.

National Board Certificate of Authorization

 

  • R – Certificate of Authorization to repair A.S.M.E. Code stamped boilers, pressure vessels and pressurized piping systems.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a non-profit organization that promotes collaboration among all disciplines of engineering. The organization’s standards and codes are used as the gold standard for regulating the engineering industry and include the rules that guide the fabrication of boilers and pressure vessels.

The “ASME” stamp (Formerly “U” Stamp) on a pressure vessel confirms that the stamped equipment conforms to the latest version of the ASME code and that it has been designed and manufactured in accordance with ASME standards. The stamp also certifies that the vessel was tested and approved by an authorized third-party inspector.

 

The ASME “S” stamp for assembly of power boilers, focuses on two kinds of boilers under the ASME code:

 

  • Boilers that produce steam or other vapor at a pressure greater than 15 psig.
  • High-temperature water boilers with operating pressures greater than 160 psig and/or temperatures greater than 250° F (120° C)

Additionally the “S” stamp applies to design, fabrication and welded repairs of power piping systems.

The ASME and the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI) developed uniform standards for the “R” stamp, which signifies a company has the ability to perform fabrication, repairs, and alterations on boilers, pressure vessels, and other pressure-retaining equipment. This requires working under a strict quality control system to correctly fabricate or repair your pressure-retaining equipment. While the standards do not give specific procedures that must be followed, the work must conform to ASME standards.

 

In order to satisfy ASME and National Board requirements a company must have an audited quality control system, as well as appropriate personnel and equipment to maintain the quality control program.

 

Marshall Industrial Technologies currently has over 100 ASME Code qualified welding procedures which include SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW and Orbital Fusion welding processes. We employ over 30 ASME Code qualified welders.

Hardfacing adds a layer of harder weld material to a surface to improve its abrasion-resistant properties or other physical characteristics. This process is customizable and allows for a variety of materials and/or alloys for the protective layer.

Corrosion Resistant Overlay adds a layer of non-corrosive weld material to a surface to improve its corrosion-resistant properties or other physical characteristics. This process is also customizable and allows for a variety of materials and/or alloys for the protective layer.

Orbital Fusion Welding

Orbital welding is typically used to precisely fuse pipe and tubing materials for high purity, sanitary processes applications.

Plasma Cutting

Plasma cutting is used in a broad variety of applications to provide clean accurate cuts through conductive materials.
